Work Hard, Play Hard at UCI

UC Irvine is not only known for its world-class academics, it is also famous for its extensive recreational opportunities! Students at UCI have full access to the Anteater Recreation Center (ARC), a state-of-the-art fitness facility that offers a wide variety of activities and services to enhance the campus community.

Students can ensure a balance in academics and fun by utilizing the ARC’s resources through daily exercise, or participation in outdoor excursions. They can also sign up for classes at the ARC, such as dance, taekwondo, and even cooking! Whatever your recreational interests may be, the ARC is sure to have a program for you.

What is Labor Day?

Labor Day Flyer

Labor Day is often a time for cookouts, get-togethers, and parades. This federal holiday is celebrated on the first Monday in September to pay tribute to the social and economic achievements of American workers.

The observance began more than 130 years ago in New York City as a “workingmen’s holiday.” The U.S. Department of Labor offers more on the history of the holiday, and explains how a famous depiction of “Rosie the Riveter” really isn’t her after all.

Curious about our current workforce? Check out the U.S. Census Bureau features statistics, including the number of American workers, most common occupations, and fastest growing jobs today.
